August 6, 2008 - Chris Ferguson Racing Headed to Cherokee for O'Reilly Southern All Stars East Event

Charlotte, NC – Chris Ferguson and his Fergy Time Race Team have set their sites on familiar territory for their next event. Ferguson and team will head for the familiar confines of Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC for this Friday night's O'Reilly Southern All Stars East Series battle. The forty lap affair at the 3/8ths of a mile red clay oval will pay the winner $3000. Ferguson will make a decision on his Saturday schedule after Friday night's action.

Ferguson is optimistic about his chances at Cherokee. "We have always ran well at Cherokee. A few weeks ago we were leading the feature when we had a carburetor problem take us out. And the next week we had a transmission problem. It rained out this past weekend but I believe we would have been competing for the win if not for the weather. I hope that we finally have all of the bugs worked out of our car and we can run well and finish a race." Ferguson stated.

The event will also give Ferguson an opportunity to network with drivers and fans to spread the word about the dash event that he has put together in honor of his late grandfather Blair Ferguson. "We have put together a ten lap dash to be run at the 36th Annual Gaston County Shrine 100 at Carolina Speedway (NC) on Tuesday, August 12th. The Shrine 100 was my Paw Paw's favorite race and this is something he would enjoy and be proud to have his name attached to." said Ferguson.

The ten lap dash will pit the top six drivers from the events time trials against each other in a ten lap shootout. The dash will pay $1500 to the winner and will pay at least $150 for sixth. "I am very fortunate to have had such a great man in my life and I hope that this event will serve as a fitting tribute for him. We are so blessed to have so many great folks helping out with this event whether it is monetarily or products or just their support. We hope that it will be a huge success and put on a good show." Ferguson said.

Ferguson and one of his longtime supporters Ryan Young of Indocil Art will be raffling off a one-of-a-kind custom designed helmet which will be autographed by all of the drivers who participate in this year's edition of the Shrine 100. Raffle tickets will be $2 each or six for $10. All proceeds from the helmet raffle will go directly to the Gaston County Shrine Club to support the Shriner's Hospital for Children. Aug 3, 2008 - 1st Annual Paw Paw Blair Memorial Dash

Charlotte, NC – 1st Annual Paw Paw Blair Memorial Dash will be held at Carolina Speedway on August 12th, 2008. The Dash will be an addition to the 36th Annual Gaston County Shrine Club "Shrine 100" race.

Paw paw was my hero in so many ways. He was just a great man. If I grow up to be half the man he was, I'll be a success. Paw Paw helped so many people and touched so many lives with every passing day. He also loved his family unconditionally. He raised a great family, a big one. He was the one that everyone looked up to.

If you know me through racing there is a good chance that you knew my grandfather. Even though he couldn't walk that great, he would hardly ever miss a race. He would travel as far as it took to watch me race. Ive been racing for about 6 years now and I would bet that he hasn't missed more than 20 in all. He was so proud of me, and he told everyone. He was the one meeting somebody new every weekend at the track and telling them about his grandson.

Paw Paw was also a member of many organizations. He was a member of the Oasis Shriners and Hillbilly Parade Unit, Charlotte York Rite Bodies, Azusa Grotto, and Honorary Life Member of the Oasis Temple, a Past Mastor of St. Andrews #702 Masonic Lodge, Carolina Court #10 Order of Amaranth, and many many more organizations. He was also a recipient of numerous awards for all of his outstanding accomplishments. He also put a lot of time and help into the Shriners Hospital for Kids.

Something that a lot people didn't know about paw paw was that he used to race dirt cars. He raced against competitors like Lee Petty and Ralph Earnhardt. Paw Paw didn't win much but he enjoyed himself at the track. My mom, uncle, and aunt went to the tracks with him. Maw Maw Orpha said that paw paw wouldn't win because he would lose a tire or run out of gas or something else would happen. He has also competed in the 1st, 2ND, and 3rd Shrine Race at Carolina Speedway. It was really special to me when he watched me win the 34Th Shrine Race in my crate car.

I choose this race because it was my grandfathers favorite race. He has had so much history with it, from racing in it, promoting it, helping shriners organizations, and much much more. I believe this will be a special night.

The top 6 drivers from qualifying in the Shrine 100 will attend the dash. The dash will take place after a short intermission between qualifying and the dash. Each driver will draw a pill for their starting positions before the event. We are planning to pay $1,500 to win and at least $150 for 6Th. The purse may go up before the event. The Dash will be set for 10 laps.

My grandfather was a great guy and we are dedicated to making this show as special as possible. The winner from the Dash will be drawing a pill from 7-24 for the rest of the field. Whoever starts in the number position that is drew will receive a certificate for fuel from Sunoco Race Fuels and Bearden Oil. This was brought to us by Danny and Chad Presnell.

Also another special addition to this show will be raffling of a custom painted autograph helmet from Incodil Art. This helmet is custom painted for the Shrine 100 Race and in memory of Blair Ferguson. Raffle tickets will be $2 a piece and $10 for 6. Ryan Young, founder of Indocil Art, is a great friend of our family and has decided to do this for the whole race. All of the profits from the raffle will go directly to the Gaston County Shrine Club. Photos of this helmet will be posted later.

July 21, 2008 - Chris Ferguson Racing Back on Track after Short Hiatus

Charlotte, NC – After a hard crash, multiple engine problems and the loss of one of their biggest supporters in Chris' grandfather Blair Ferguson Chris Ferguson Racing is back on track once again. The young Charlotte, North Carolina dirt late model pilot has recently had several strong runs and has reasserted himself as one of the areas up and coming super late model drivers.

Debuting a brand new paint scheme on his #22 Rocket Chassis mount, Ferguson won a heat race and led several laps in his return to Cherokee Speedway two weeks ago. Carburetor problems ended his hopes of the win but the run certainly rekindled his competitive fires.

Ferguson was back at Cherokee just three days later on Tuesday night for the Gaffney, South Carolina speedway's $3500 to win O'Reilly Southern Nationals event. Ferguson laid down a very good lap on his first lap and would have been very close to the pole on the second until he jumped the cushion exiting turn four. The first lap was good enough for the seventh starting spot.

Ferguson went on to race his way up to fifth and he had began to put pressure on the fourth place running Tony Knowles when a late caution flew. The caution allowed Ferguson's tires to cool too much causing them to glaze up. Ferguson faded over the remaining laps but held on to take tenth.

"We had a pretty good car for the Southern Nationals race but it wasn't as good as that first week back over here. We were too tight through the center and then that caution really killed us on tires. We probably a little harder than we needed to be but we are still learning about tire selection. But I am real happy to be running again and hopefully we can get back to victory lane again soon." Ferguson said.

Ferguson's Rocket Chassis with power from Glenn Roberts Race Engines is sponsored by Hamrick's of Gaffney, Carver & Sons Roofing and Firestone Building Products. Associate sponsors include Barnyard Utility Buildings, Big A's Custom Graphics, Eagle Manufacturing, Hal's Plumbing, J & S Reel Logging, Ferguson Interior Finishing.
