Charlotte,
NC –
Young late model pilot Chris Ferguson has announced his
intent to challenge for the 2008 PBM Performance Parts
Rookie of the Year title on the Carolina Clash Super Late
Model Series Tour. Ferguson made a few super late model
starts in 2007 and picked up two wins after three successful
full seasons behind the wheel of a crate late model.
Ferguson has set his goals high for 2008 against a bumper
crop of RoTY candidates and several perennial Carolina Clash
favorites. “I know we can give these guys a run for their
money. We have a great chassis and engine combination so if
the driver can get his job done we should be in pretty good
shape.” said the youngster.
Ferguson
begins his quest for the title this Saturday night, March 15th
at the Lancaster Speedway. The historic Lancaster , SC oval
will host a fifty lap $5000 to win event which serves as the
Carolina Clash season opener. Ferguson will face the likes
of four time series champion Ricky Weeks as well as fellow
RoTY candidates Terry Lumley, Daniel Baggerly, Tim Allen,
Scott Neighbors and Shane Riner. “We feel like we can be
competitive right out of the box at Lancaster . We have had
some good runs there in our crate car so we hope we can
build on that.” said the driver known as Fergy by has many
fans.
Ferguson
got his season started two weeks ago at Cherokee
Speedway’s O’Reilly Southern All Stars East March
Madness VI event on Sunday March 2nd. Fergy
qualified sixth fastest in his heat race group. Ferguson
moved forward in the heat but fell just shy of a transfer
spot in the heat race but took a convincing win in the first
consolation race. Ferguson hung around the top fifteen
throughout the sixty lapper, but late in the going was
forced pitside with overheating problems. “The car was
really good but the track was kind of rough and we just
couldn’t get going. I didn’t want to hurt the motor so I
pulled in so we finished 18th. We got to make a
lot of laps though so that helped us out a bunch.” said
Fergy.
